Summary
VCU’s Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire an Electrical/Mechanical Trades Specialist for Facilities Operations.
The Electrical/Mechanical Trades Specialist is responsible for all electrical and mechanical related reactive and preventive maintenance of approximately 200 exhaust and fume hoods throughout the Zone.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Utilize knowledge of the electrical/mechanical trade to perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building infrastructure, primarily exhaust and fume hood systems ensuring efficient operation of Zone facilities
- Provide exemplary customer service to all faculty, staff, and students supporting the University's mission of teaching, high-impact research, and creative expression
- Identify and document system deficiencies using diagnostic tools and advise management of tasks requiring priority attention
- Provide quality workmanship and service to maximize system availability and minimize unscheduled downtime
- 28 days of annual paid leave

- Minimum of several years experience in commercial/institutional electrical service experience
- Ability to diagnose, repair, service, and install a wide variety of electrical and mechanical systems
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing to supervision, other employees, and customers
- Knowledge of appropriate building codes
- Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and power equipment
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- State of Virginia Driver's License required
- State of Virginia Journeyman's Electrical or HVAC License required or the ability to obtain within the first year of service
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- 5+ years experience in commercial/institutional electrical service experience
- Electrical or HVAC courses I, II, III, code classes, basic and advanced training or equivalent combination of experience and trade/craft training
- State of Virginia Driver's License
- State of Virginia Journeyman's Electrical or HVAC License required or the ability to obtain within the first year of service
