Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Upward Bound Director and assists with planning and delivering of pre-college program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policies, and assists with program administration to establish effective relationships between the university, partners and communities.

UW Green Bay’s Upward Bound programs serve high school students to enhance academic success, college readiness and completion. The program provides opportunities for participants to learn skills to help them succeed in their precollege performance and pursue higher education. Upward Bound serves students from low-income families and those who would be the first in their family to earn a bachelor’s degree (first-gen.).

The Program Advisor works closely with high school students in Green Bay Area Public Schools to provide ongoing guidance, support and resources in order to increase completion of secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of higher education. The Upward Bound Program Advisor also works closely with the Upward Bound Director to facilitate student involvement and create detailed reports and monitor budget activities. The advisor performs program activities including student recruitment, direct student service, development and facilitation of programs and partners with school district staff to engage with students. This position calls for a highly organized, flexible and self-directed individual with excellent communication skills.

What You'll Do

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the pre-college program.
  • Schedules, secures, and communicates logistics and resources in support of a pre-college program.
  • Delivers pre-college program content and materials to community members.
  • Researches, develops, and facilitates pre-college program content and materials.
  • Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • May assist with monitoring of pre-college program budget spending.
  • Serves as a main point of contact to students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements.
  • Provides support in identifying appropriate fields of study, career options, or programs and refers students to appropriate resources.
  • Leads the implementation of program policies and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree at time of application
  • Two years’ experience in K-12 school(s), higher education or other educational organizations working with low-income, first generation, English language learners, or new immigrant populations
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting efforts to create a diverse and inclusive community
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail in all aspects of the job
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with the ability to use databases, spreadsheets and software applications

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, human services or related field
  • Experience with grant or federally funded educational programs
  • Experience working with high school students
  • Experience in event planning
  • Bilingual, preferably in Spanish, Hmong, Somali or Oneida

Conditions of Appointment

Some travel is required for working with students in their high schools and attending workshops, conferences, and meetings. Occasional evening and and/or weekend work is expected and will be assigned by supervisor as needed.

Position is a full-time Academic Staff appointment.  This position may have the option to work on-campus or a hybrid schedule subject to approved telecommuting request.  Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). Compensation and Benefits

Minimum salary of $44,000.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Benefit Details

The UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
