The UMKC Institute for Human Development (IHD) is an applied research and training center for human services designed to exemplify the University’s goals of engaged scholarship and community partnerships. Its functions include interdisciplinary training, applied research, community program development and information dissemination. It serves as the University Center on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) for the state of Missouri.

Job Description

The University of Missouri-Kansas City Institute for Human Development is seeking a creative, motivated, and experienced professional for the position of Digital Learning Coordinator. The Digital Learning Coordinator is a member of the Communications and Development team and will contribute expertise to develop and deliver high impact education and training across the projects and programs of the IHD using digital strategies. The Digital Learning Coordinator will work with project teams to develop online learning modules, web-based training sessions, videos, toolkits, and related materials. The individual in this position will use strong interpersonal, written, and visual communication skills to bring together text, images, video, and audio to communicate to and educate the public health workforce.

General Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the design, development and implementation of web-based and face-to-face courses and course tools as well as development and implementation of user’s training programs.
  • Serve as an integral member of the project team to facilitate engaging training and development programs incorporating adult learning principles that are accessible and follow universal design strategies.
  • Collaborate and consult with subject matter experts and stakeholders to define objectives for courses, curricula, and/or toolkits.
  • Outline the concept for a course, curriculum, or toolkit by defining modality for content delivery, assessments, collateral tools and materials, and complementary learning approaches.
  • Develop and update learning content based on input from subject matter experts, published material, previous training courses, interviews, etc. and/or facilitate the creation and implementation of learning content to agreed quality standards, data protection rules and accessibility requirements. Ensure that content and format is consistent with principles of adult learning.
  • Write audio scripts for courses and consult with subject matter expert to ensure proper pronunciation and style.
  • Develop learning content (screen layouts, graphics and interactions appropriate to the content) using appropriate authoring software, including recording voice overs, as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance in use and access to digital learning applications and strategies, including adult learning principles, useability, and accessibility.
  • Produce and integrate video with digital learning strategies.
  • Coordinate and maintain project work plans with team members to ensure completion of tasks.
  • Research advances in web-based course development technologies and make recommendations on products to support instructional technology planning and execution.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Experience in instructional design, curriculum development, educational technology, distance learning, information science and e-learning technology techniques and best practices
  • Knowledge of learning management systems, multimedia applications and authoring tools for instructional purposes
  • Working knowledge of coding in the following languages HTML, CSS, and/or JavaScript.
  • Working knowledge of different authoring tools, such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate,
  • Working knowledge of a variety of learning management systems, including Thinkific, Canvas, Canvas Catalog, etc.
  • Experience in training, staff development and/or teaching
  • Demonstrated written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills with strong intellectual and analytical skills.
  • Strength in self-driven performance and initiative
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse learning populations.

Salary

Anticipated salary range up to $70,000 per year commensurate on education, experience and internal equity.
