Job Description
A Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Professor Jinsong Zhu in the Department of Biochemistry at Virginia Tech. The lab uses state-of-the-art functional genomics approaches to investigate the molecular regulation of mosquito reproduction. The successful candidate will elucidate signal transduction pathways that govern reproduction in female mosquitoes and investigate chromatin state transitions associated with hormonal signaling. This Research Associate will have the opportunity to develop related research projects as long as they overlap with the interests of the lab. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Position Duties and Responsibilities: The Research Associate will conduct research on the two projects listed and train graduate and undergraduate students. Applicants are expected to work independently, assist in project design and data analysis, author manuscripts for peer review, and present at national/international conferences.
Job Responsibilities Include: Perform experiments to explore the molecular regulation of mosquito reproduction and complete data analysis. Contribute to the conceptualization and conduct of projects. Prepare and revise manuscripts. Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
Required Qualifications
Successful applicants must have at least a Master's degree in life sciences; Prior expertise in molecular biology is essential; Applicants must demonstrate outstanding communication skills via a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D in life sciences; Experience in any of the following areas is highly desirable: Protein-protein interactions, data analysis of high-throughput DNA/RNA sequencing results, RNAi, and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing system.
