Job Description

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering Dean’s office at ASU seeks a highly-motivated communications specialist to join our Marketing and Communications team. This candidate will develop and implement the college's communication strategies, programs and project content, and materials for a variety of projects that effectively market and disseminate information, and promotes the college's activities to internal and external constituents including faculty, staff, current and prospective students, alumni, donors and the community. This position reports to the manager, creative services within the marketing and communications department.

 

Salary Range

$49,133 - $63,874 per year, DOE

Essential Duties

  • Produces creative marketing materials for print and digital mediums using writing and graphic design skills
  • Plans, develops, and produces creative, high-quality content for college audiences (e.g., faculty, staff, students, donors, prospective students, and the general public) using multiple media and tools
  • Contributes to or produces all aspects including design and content editing of alumni and internal college newsletters, brochures, mailers, giveaways, advertising, social media, presentations and web content
  • Supports the communication needs including writing, graphic design and website updates of the college's departments and programs; especially as they relate to development, recruitment, and student services activities
  • Interfaces with project leads/managers, team members and key stakeholders in order to promote the activities of students, faculty, staff and alumni through photography, design and layout of publications, promotional items and websites
  • May oversee content for websites and social media channels; ensure timeliness of all information and coordinate content updates with departments, programs and other units
  • Attend and provide support at college specific events, which may occur outside normal business hours
  • Schedule, edit and support photo and video shoots in alignment with strategic goals of college and departments

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, Education or a related field AND four (4) years of related work experience in the development of comprehensive and creative communication; OR Eight (8) years of related work experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. Certificates from recognized programs that verify mastery of tools and techniques relevant to the assignment may substitute for up to six (6) months of experience.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing practices and principles
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with faculty, staff, teams and community members
  • Experience with graphic design concepts and publication layout
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, specifically Photoshop and InDesign
  • Experience working with Google docs and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud
  • Experience managing website content with WordPress
  • Experience with social media channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, flickr and Facebook) a plus
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Experience in taking and processing photos for online and publication use
  • Experience translating complex and technical subjects/stories for a general audience
  • Experience in principles, concepts, and practices of project management

 

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Lift up to 20 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone, and associated computer/technology peripherals.
