Job Description

The University of Missouri–St. Louis is seeking its next Social Media Manager to help share the UMSL story through our social media channels. It's an exciting time to be at UMSL with our 60th anniversary approaching, a $100 million investment in our campus through Transform UMSL and a new enrollment brand. We want to showcase the students, faculty, staff and alumni who make UMSL such a vibrant community and spread news of their accomplishments far and wide across a variety of platforms. This position will be in charge of strategic direction, planning and content creation - including video, day-to-day management and assessment for the university social media accounts, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok. It will also work closely with enrollment management, advancement and departmental social media coordinators to better align the UMSL brand across accounts and increase UMSL's visibility.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage and monitor the university's institutional social media presence including distinct online communities on various social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and more.
  • Collaborate with staff, faculty and students to identify and prioritize effective content creation and storytelling opportunities to improve engagement and reach.
  • Work collaboratively with the Public Relations team to develop video assets for UMSL Daily content.
  • Work closely with the Office of Enrollment Management to create content to support recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Work closely with the Office of Advancement to share alumni stories, campaign updates and news.
  • Work with community partners to promote joint projects.
  • Assist with digital advertising buys on social channels for brand-level advertising.
  • Work with, influence and educate university stakeholders and other university social media managers about social media best practices and communication strategies.
  • Document social media policies and procedures and develop training materials for the campus community.
  • Be an active member of the crisis communications team, providing official public facing communications via Twitter.
  • Remain flexible and nimble regarding fluctuation in work hours and duties in order to monitor/manage/create social media posts as situations arise.
  • Review analytics and create reports on key metrics that drive strategy.
  • Display a high level of personal discretion, recognizing communication with the university's external audiences could affect recruitment, fundraising, legislative relations, news coverage and other reputation-related areas.
  • Manage a student intern when available.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Shift

8 am to 5 pm, some evenings and weekends when needed

Salary

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $49,000 - $55,000 Annually
Grade: GGS-10
University Title: Social Media Manager

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least three years of experience in professional social media or community management and an understanding of its various platforms, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. and best practices for each platform.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, media studies, journalism, digital marketing or related.
