The Executive Director (the Director) of the South Carolina Institute on the Prevention of Sexual Violence on College Campuses (the Institute) will play a critical role in the coordination and collaboration of strategic development and implementation of best practice standards across South Carolina higher education campuses in an effort to (1) prevent interpersonal violence, and (2) through annual trainings and conferences, introduce protocols for the successful care of survivors accessing intervention and support services. The Institute is chartered at Lander University which has campuses in Greenwood and Greenville, SC. The Institute will have offices in Greenville, SC.

This Director will work with the President of Lander University, and the Board of Trustees to strategize, develop, and operationalize all aspects of the Institute. The Executive Director will possess strong leadership skills and the ability to develop relationships that both encourage higher education participation and garner government leadership support. The Director will report directly to the Lander University President and collaborate closely with the Institute’s Board of Trustees and Advisory Council. She/he will be a key member of the Institute’s leadership team and responsible for overseeing all functions of the Institute. The Director will also be supported by a team of professionals in the fields of marketing, research, education, and training.  

The Director will play a critical role in the development and delivery of state- and institution-specific work focused on the prevention of sexual violence on college campuses. Working with the Board of Trustees and the Lander president, the Director will craft the original vision, mission, and strategic plan of the Institute, as well as oversee recruitment, employment, management, development, and release of all Institute personnel. The Director will be instrumental in the development and deployment of a variety of pertinent standards/best practices, educational and training materials, programs, etc. that will be available for all participating higher education institutions in the state of South Carolina. The Director will also consistently meet with key legislators, donors, and other stakeholders, to promote the mission of the Institute.

In 2022, the Governor and General Assembly of South Carolina authorized the creation of the South Carolina Institute on the Prevention of Sexual Violence on College Campuses (the Institute). The goal of the Institute is to reduce the prevalence of interpersonal violence on college and university campuses in South Carolina and introduce best practice standards for the successful care of survivors accessing intervention and support services. The Institute’s membership will in large part be composed of college and university employees from around the state of South Carolina and the southeast. The Institute will provide ongoing workshops related to sexual violence prevention throughout the year to all participating colleges and universities and will be instrumental in facilitating research opportunities for member institutions related to the prevention of sexual violence on colleges campuses.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience in sexual assault prevention and/or advocacy, or related professional work, along with five years’ experience with staff supervision and management. Excellent communication, public speaking, and presentation skills are essential.  Experience in conference management, a college or university setting, state legislature/legislation, and grant writing and grant management is preferred.   A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution is required; a master’s degree is also preferred. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Founded in 1872, Lander is a co-educational, state-assisted, comprehensive, regional, four-year university in Greenwood, S.C. As the state’s fastest-growing public institution of higher education, Lander projects a total enrollment of 5,000 students within the next three years. Dr. Richard Cosentino, who was appointed as Lander University’s 12th President in the summer of 2015, requested the chartering of the Institute to solidify a more unified and collaborative approach by higher education institutions across the state to end and respond effectively to interpersonal violence.
