Job Description

This position supports research staff, trainees, and the PIs of two laboratories studying cardiovascular physiology. The responsibilities for routine operations of these labs includes: cleaning equipment in the laboratories; working to ensure that all dissection spaces are organized, clean and functional at all times; creating and updating laboratory protocols as needed; initiating purchasing to ensure that an adequate supply of materials, equipment, and chemicals are available to support the needs of users; facilitation of record keeping for lab compliance with Environmental Health and Safety, the Office of Animal Resources, and other regulator organizations.

Management of mouse animal colonies of respective laboratories will be a vital aspect for this job. The individual in this position will be trained for small rodent handling (mice) to document and record their genotype for colony management, data entry of results of all genotyping performed and archiving and maintenance of an inventory of DNA and primers.

In the remaining time not dedicated to laboratory management, the individual will perform a wide range of technical research, laboratory tests, and procedures which may include: immunohistochemistry, immunoblot, PCR, ELISA, cell culture and performance of various physiological experiments. They may be required to record and report the results of experiments and studies within the laboratory, analyze and synthesize data, and create reports and outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience and from which additional knowledge and skills can be acquired.

Preferred Qualifications

BS or BA in biological sciences (biology, zoology, physiology neuroscience or related field). Experience in molecular biology or animal studies preferred. Must have good work ethic, be flexible, reliable, detail-oriented, and have excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel; ImageJ; GraphPad.
