Position Summary

The CAMP Academic Advisor is responsible for providing a broad range of services and support to first generation college students from migrant and seasonal farm work backgrounds who are enrolled at Portland Community College within the College Assistance Migrant Program. The CAMP Academic Advisor provides constant academic advising, support on developing Graduation Plans, teaches College Guidance, and facilitates student connections to college and community resources. This CAMP Academic Advisor works independently at the PCC Rock Creek Campus and collaborates with other coaches, advisors, and faculty within the college.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse populations
  • Fluent in verbal and written English and Spanish to effectively communicate with students and families from migrant and seasonal farm work backgrounds
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising services to first year migrant students including academic planning, goal setting, problem solving, and referrals
  • Provides specialized support/retention services to students through use of program resources, college services, and internal/external partnerships
  • Develop educational curriculum related to successful college navigation and success, instruct CAMP specific College Guidance courses, and evaluate student learning outcomes
  • Creates and maintains active case files/documentation on individual students by recording information on paper and electronically via EAB-Navigate, GRAD Plan, Image Now, and Banner software and other applications. Maintains statistical information and produces reports on students served.
Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Science, or related field. Experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated experience working with various diverse and at-risk populations. Experience working with students or clients in advising and developing goals.
  • Experience assessing student or client needs and coordinating educational and community based services.
  • Fluency in Spanish required

$52,961.00 to $56,735.00 (Step 3); based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work is typically performed in an office environment. Occasional travel to local community based organizations requiring the use of a personal vehicle required. Requires the ability to work some evening and weekend hours. Attendance at marketing events requires the ability to lift or pull boxes of material that may weigh up to 25 pounds.

The ASR contains current security and safety-related policy disclosure statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information and resources, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains crime statistics for Clery Act crimes which occurred on PCC properties for the last three calendar years. Paper copies of the ASR are available upon request at all Department of Public Safety offices.

Special Conditions for this position:

This position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). Campus Security Authorities must immediately report Clery Act crimes that occurred on Portland Community College’s Clery geography on the Crime Incident Report (CIRTrac™) located on the Department of Public Safety’s Clery Act compliance webpage . Following entry of a report on CIRTrac™ PCC’s Clery Specialist will (1) analyze the report for issuance of a timely warning or emergency notification; and (2) will determine if the report should be included in the annual statistical disclosures. The Clery Specialist shall annually assign CSAs online Clery Act training to ensure they are provided proper training to fulfill their reporting responsibilities required by the Clery Act and PCC’s Clery Act policy.
