Position Summary

The Community Relations Associate will make a significant contribution to promoting the service offerings of UB Parking and Transportation Services through creative marketing, innovative messaging, outreach and direct communication with our customers and the communities we serve. This team member will help the department reach its aspiration to support the university’s mission, by promoting services that provide the means to get to class, labs, libraries, work and off-campus activities, while also advocating for sustainability by marketing transportation alternatives and programs that reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles traveling to and from the campuses. The Community Relations Associate will also work within the department to support resource management and business operations and reporting.

The key responsibilities for this position include:
  • Marketing of department service offerings to all students, inclusive of outreach and presentations at orientations, open houses, focus group sessions and forums.
  • Initiate innovative messaging design, i.e. print, electronic, special event and video, to promote the department’s transportation service offerings and inform of parking strategy, rules and regulations.
  • Work with supervisor to write, create and edit public relations messaging including news releases, service advisories, publications and website content.
  • Contribute as a member of the social media outreach team and serve on related committees, including as a divisional communication steward.
  • Contribute to the success of the customer service team, by employing public relations skills to answer questions from customers, in-person, by phone and via email. Communicate trends and issues shared within customer service interactions to parking and mobility teams for follow-up.
  • Ensure that the unit has the resources and tools to operate, by overseeing inventory and tracking purchases, payments and billing. Track and follow-up on receivables. Assist in the preparation of unit budgets and support staff in other business and HR operations. Generate financial reports utilizing infographics and make clear, informative presentations to staff.
  • Assist with scheduling, promotion, outreach, registration and other aspects of the UB Express Bus Home program.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Communications, English, or a related field.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in the areas of communications, marketing or a related field in a customer-service oriented setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated creation of marketing, public relations, promotional campaigns; special events.
  • Demonstrated innovative messaging design in print, infographic communications, social media, video or other mediums.
  • Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills; ability to communicate with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff and campus visitors.
  • Experience in resource management, business office operations; organizational skills.
