Responsibilities- Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Access Services Department Head is a 12-month faculty position with administrative responsibilities for the operation of the department and its units. Specific duties include- manage 10 FTE staff and approximately 40 FTE student employees; oversee workflows and quality control measures; work cooperatively to address facilities and safety/security-related issues, which may require some evening/weekend hours. Collaborate with internal and external entities to establish and develop programs, services, and consortial relationships beneficial to constituents, the library, and the university. Develop and communicate goals and objectives for the department; and participate in the library’s management group, taking a broad library-wide perspective while representing the department’s needs. Serve on library and campus committees. As a member of the library faculty, pursue an active and ongoing program of professional development appropriate for his/her rank at the university. Ensures compliance with relevant library and university policies and procedures, including department head roles and responsibilities as specified in 6.72-Department Heads Responsibilities, including Teaching of the New Mexico State University Administrative Rules and Procedures.


As a member of the library faculty, is responsible for achieving in the following areas: *Librarianship *Scholarship and Creative Activity *Outreach and Extension (when appropriate) *Service

Required Qualifications: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program; minimum of five years of progressively responsible management of a public services environment. Supervisory experience minimum two years in a public services environment. Three years’ experience with a library automation system.
