Position Description Summary/Purpose :

The CNC Lab Technician role is responsible for set up, operation, breakdown, and maintenance of Haas CNC Milling and Turing Machines as well as Manual Milling and Turning Machines. Under the direction of faculty, a university CNC Lab Technician will work with students to understand the range of available manufacturing equipment, and coordinate with faculty to provide hands-on experiences and general knowledge of machining. This role may require additional training on equipment relevant CNC and manual machines.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities :

  • Operate, Setup and Instruct - CNC Machines, Manual Mill & Lathe, Surface Grinder, Live-Tooling Lathe, Enforce Shop Safety Regulations
  • Operate, Setup and Instruct - 5 Axis Mill a plus
  • Perform skilled laboratory functions in support of college coursework.
  • Operate, maintain, and make minor adjustments and repairs on the lab equipment.
  • Assist in the procurement and commissioning of new lab equipment.
  • Set up and execute a preventative maintenance schedule for the lab equipment.
  • Instruct students in the proper and safe use of lab equipment and tools.
  • Explain and demonstrate operation of the lab equipment to the students and faculty, and assist them as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of lab tooling and supplies, and purchase if necessary.
  • Maintain appropriate safety standards in the lab.
  • Support students while engaged in laboratory learning experiences in the Advanced Manufacturing Center.
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.
Other Functions :
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of Haas CNC laboratory equipment, MasterCam Software Preferred, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance/ Blueprint Reading, and Shop Math.
  • Knowledge of MasterCam preferred.
  • Mentoring, training, or teaching experience preferred.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as organizational and logistic skills

  • Demonstration of excellent customer service skills to faculty, students and other stakeholders
  • Recognize and solve process and equipment problems

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications :

Education, Training and Experience :
  • High School Diploma
  • College Certificate or Degree in related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in the operation, maintenance and support of CNC machines, blueprint reading, and shop math.

  • Valid Drivers License & Insured Vehicle
