Job Summary

The Department of Psychology at Elmhurst University welcomes applications for a Visiting Lecturer position to replace a faculty member taking a sabbatical for the 2023-2024 Academic Year. The position begins August 2023. Visiting Lecturer positions at Elmhurst University are teaching-focused positions designed to promote the hiring of candidates for short-term, full-time teaching roles. Applicants with any area of expertise within the field of Psychology are welcome to apply and will be fully considered, but the ability to teach courses in our core ( PSY 210 Introduction to Psychological Science, but especially PSY 356 Research Methods in Psychology) is required. In support of program and university goals, applicants with expertise in cognition or neuroscience (broadly considered), or whose expertise focuses on equity and inclusion are especially encouraged to apply.

Elmhurst University has experienced record enrollment and growth over the last several years in both our undergraduate and graduate programs. Additionally, Elmhurst University has been identified by US News & World Report as the best regional university in Illinois, and among the Top 15 Colleges and Universities in the Midwest for Social Mobility and Innovation. The Department of Psychology contributes to these outcomes by striving to support the development of diverse and equitable learning environments using evidence-based practices that promote a sense of inclusion and belonging.

Essential Functions

The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to support the Psychology program by teaching core courses (especially Research Methods in Psychology), and courses in their area of expertise as needed by the department. This position does not require continued research or service to the university, though the visiting lecturer is expected to be an active member of the department. The successful candidate would also have access to department research resources (though again, research is not required for this position).

Candidates will be responsible for teaching four courses per semester (4-4 load), with the possibility of distributing these courses over the January Term (a one-month course in the month of January, for a 3- 1-4 or 4-1-3 load). This position begins Fall 2023.
