Content Strategist

Job Summary

Develops and implements content strategies for the enhancement of the University’s brand identity and engagement with key constituencies, particularly student recruitment, donor development and the academic division. Manages Elmhurst University’s public website on a daily basis.

Essential Functions
  • Serves as lead content creator for the institutional website and other marketing office initiatives (ex. blogs, newsletters, digital advertising campaigns, student stories, sell sheets and email marketing). Utilizes Search Engine Optimization best practices when creating content.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to create content that is consistent with the University brand; editing is required with most projects and is an essential aspect of the position.
  • Works with department members and external partners to enhance the website’s design and functionality for end users. Contributes to ongoing enhancement of the website’s design and information architecture.
  • Ensures web content—editorial, photos, and multimedia—meets the University’s style, tone and brand standards, as well as target reading levels and accessibility compliance levels, and works to ensure that site content is current and accurate.
  • Troubleshoots problems and works with content management system provider as needed.
  • Generates reports and analyzes web traffic.
  • Identifies and evaluates strategic improvements, including new technology and software; monitors trends in the industry.
  • Works with website agency on feature requests.
  • Provides necessary training for faculty and staff—writing for the web, basics of accessibility, and CMS features and functions.
  • Oversees regular review rhythm and process for web content across departments and units.
  • Supports the overall objectives of the Office of Marketing and Communications.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Supports Elmhurst University’s mission, vision and values.
Other Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism or communications, and a strong portfolio of writing samples.
  • At least five years of experience, preferably in an agency or higher education environment.
  • Experience working in a content management system and Google Analytics.
  • Excellent multitasking, project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to high standards.
  • A passion for user experience design, social media and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion within established deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a contributing member of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using WordPress and Search Engine Optimization software (the office currently uses BrightEdge) for keyword research and content planning.
  • Basic knowledge of web languages (HTML5, CSS, PHP, etc.) and W3C standards.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud experience.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
