Position Summary:

Are you a passionate educator, committed to LGBTQ+ education and supporting students? Join our dynamic team at the Brook Center, where we work with student leaders to make our campus community a better place!

The assistant director, LGBTQ+ education will serve as a member of a larger integrative team within the Brook Center, which houses LGBTQ+ education, mental health education, health promotion and education, and sexual violence prevention education. As a critical member of this team, the assistant director develops and provides a comprehensive educational plan for all undergraduate students on sexual orientation and gender identity, creates opportunity for community building amongst LGBTQ+ students, and supports LGBTQ+ students in a manner reflective of UD's Catholic and Marianist mission. Education will be targeted to all students, with specific programs designed for entering students, upper class students, students in fraternity and sorority life, athletes, and student staff.

Education and Training
- Coordinate and grow the Ally+ workshop into an institutionalized, sustainable, and responsive model by serving as the primary manager, to include co-facilitating the 4 hour training, training the trainers (other faculty and staff across campus) to serve as co-facilitators, creating booster events and programming throughout the year, recruiting training participants, and creating opportunity for ally initiatives
- Create, implement, and assess comprehensive, trauma-informed, evidence-based educational programming through classroom presentations and partnering with student organizations. Education topics will include, but are not limited to: sexual orientation, gender identity, sexual identity, heterosexual and cisgender privilege, intersectionality, allyship, and inclusive language.
- Target specific populations with education and training, including fraternity and sorority life, student athletes, student organizations, and student staffs, and partner with faculty to bring this education into the classroom environment
- Create vision and oversee strategic programming, including Pride Week, Coming Out Day, Transgender Day of Remembrance, and bringing keynote speakers
- Create tailored educational campaigns for underrepresented student populations, including international students, students of color, LGBTQ+ student populations, etc.
- Serve as the primary adviser to Q*mmunity Leaders, the student peer education program, including serving as instructor for UDI 404, their 1 credit hour mini course.
- Maintain a commitment to continuous improvement by engaging in ongoing assessment to ensure that services remain dynamic, responsive, and relevant to the needs of LGBTQ+ students.

Visibility and student services
-Manage the LGBTQ+ and Allied Student Lounge
- Provide clear and accessible information about services and resources to the entire community, including maintaining the website, contributing to social media efforts, and consistently seeking new and innovative ways to engage with the campus community
- Promote existing University and Marianist documents that uphold the University's support of, service to, and pastoral care for LGBTQ+ individuals
- Create opportunities for student involvement and leadership that will encourage healthy gender and sexual identity development, with special care taken toward students living outside the gender binary
- Support students in their healthy identity development through one on one conversation and by creating safe spaces for students to build community

Collaboration
- Closely collaborate with campus partners, including Campus Ministry, Student Government Association, Spectrum, The Multi-Ethnic Education & Engagement Center (MEC), the Diversity Action Team, the Equity Compliance Office, Counseling Center, and QDayton to further the strategic goals related to the unit’s mission and support LGBTQ+ students and their diverse needs
- Serve on relevant Student Development, University, and campus partner committees

Climate
- Conduct all professional interactions and educational programming with sensitivity to the Catholic and Marianist mission of the institution
- Assist students in understanding non-discrimination policy, Title IX, and corresponding reporting processes
- Consult with Equity Compliance and other offices across campus to consider the impact of policies on the LGBTQ+ student community and work toward inclusion
- Stay up to date on national trends, best practices, and new, relevant research across disciplines

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in related field with 2 years of experience designing, implementing, or assessing sexuality education programs through internships, practicum, assistantships, or professional experience OR a Master's degree in related field.
- Experience working with diverse populations, successful collaboration with a wide variety of constituents, and conducting educational programs and training workshops
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to present education in the context of UD's Catholic and Marianist identity and values
- Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

- Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or similar field
- Academic degree or certification in sexuality related field
- Two years of post-master professional experience designing, implementing, and assessing sexuality education programs in a higher education setting
- Demonstrated experience in program and curriculum development
- Demonstrated experience providing LGBTQ+ education within a religious context
- Ability to thrive in a team-based educational environment that values high expectations, integrity, and leadership, while possessing positive attitude and enthusiasm
- A thorough understanding of student development theory
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and run large-scale programming both independently and through collaboration across departments
- Exceptional presentation skills and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to inspire others to share a vision
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse community and provide education from a non-judgmental perspective
- Experience facilitating an ally training program (or similar)
- Demonstrated experience in working with content related to mental health education, sexual violence prevention education, and/or LGBTQ+ student services
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Supervision and/or advising experience
- Experience managing a financial budget
- Ability to handle confidential information, work independently, and work as part of a team

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
