Position Summary

The Associate Director of Residential Operations is part of the Residence Life Leadership Team.

The Associate Director is responsible for occupancy management for the residence halls (5500+ beds), and oversight of the Family Housing and University Apartments (425) occupancy management. The Associate Director provides leadership and support in the implementation of the Housing Management System, StarRez, including but not limited to developing systems and applications, development of training sessions and materials, and ongoing support for collaboration with the Housing Service Center team and other members of the Residence Life Leadership Team. This position requires communicating effectively within the department, with students, parents, staff, and with agencies beyond the campus. The position requires extensive application of computer databases and management systems. This position requires a basic understanding of the development of software and web-based programs and the integration of new programs into operating systems, applications, networks, and databases. This position requires the ability to analyze and solve problems.

Under the direct supervision of the Sr Associate Director of Residential Operations, the Associate Director is responsible for managing the day-to-day operational component of the University Housing Residence Life program which includes:
  • Manage and coordinate all activities associated with the residential student application, room selection, and assignment process for the residence halls and university apartments/houses.
  • Process all assignment records and billings associated with housing and dining plans for resident students.
  • Process room assignments and room change requests for the residence halls for new and renewing students.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for occupancy management of university apartments and houses (425 units), including supervision of full-time professional staff.
  • Improve services while delivering reliable and stable technical solutions to achieve University Housing's goal of data-driven decision-making regarding occupancy issues.
  • Meal plan management and meal plan changes.
  • Provide leadership for the daily operations of the Front Desk of University Housing, including desk operations, supervision of professional staff, hiring, training, and supervision of student staff.
  • Contact with parents and students regarding all processes related to assignments, dining plans, and billing.
  • Management of the Housing Occupancy system (StarRez) and interaction with the University's student information system management (Banner).
  • Develop/maintain partnerships with the Office of Information Technology, Enrollment Services, Business Affairs Office, and other campus partners.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, parents, and campus constituents.
  • Development of Housing operations training programs.
  • Supervision of three classified staff; the Front Desk and Outreach Coordinator, FHUA Assignment and Services Coordinator, and the Operations Coordinator, and 10-12 student staff.

    This position reports to the Sr Associate Director of Residential Operations and requires the ability and willingness to work unusual and occasional extended hours.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of full-time professional experience in education.
  • Two years of experience in leading a team in customer/student services.

    Professional Competencies

  • Computer application and database experience, including report writing, dashboard creation, and the integration of data between systems.
  • Strong administrative and management experience.
  • Excellent customer service and teamwork skills are required.
  • Commitment to diversity and expanded opportunities for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and work effectively with students.
  • Ability to explain complex and technical information to new or inexperienced staff.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • At least two years of housing management software experience, preferably with StarRez.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, finish, and assess a large-scale project.
  • One year of experience, leading projects from the beginning, through implementation, and the review phase.
  • Experience integrating the use of technology into the delivery of services to Housing customers.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems; preferably experience with analyzing and solving problems with software applications and databases.
  • Basic knowledge or awareness of copyright laws, industry standards, and section 508 compliant web design standards.
  • Understanding of FERPA and how it applies to this role.
  • Experience integrating the use of technology into the delivery of services to Housing customers.
