Job Description

University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) Conservatory invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Vocal Coaching and Collaborative Piano position to begin fall 2023. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position with a 9-month service period.

Responsibilities will vary based on the needs of the Vocal Studies Area, and the expertise of the successful candidate:
  • lesson vocal coaching
  • accompanying graduate level voice recitals (MM, Performers Certificate, DMA, Artist Certificate)
  • teaching undergraduate-level courses in vocal diction (German, French, Italian) and graduate-level courses in vocal literature (German, French, American/British)
  • musical assistance for opera and musical theatre productions, opera scenes and chamber operas

The Assistant Teaching Professor will contribute to the enhancement of all facets of the Music Division; collaborate musically and artistically, both within and outside of the university; contribute to the performance, academic, and service environments characteristic of a Conservatory within a university; enrich the cultural environment of the Kansas City metropolitan community; participate actively in the intellectual life of the Conservatory and engage in other Conservatory activities. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate potential in collaborative performance across a wide range of styles.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in collaborative piano or piano performance required.

Demonstrated successful experience as a vocal coach/accompanist in a university and/or professional setting; record of professional activity as a vocal coach/collaborative pianist at a regional level; comprehensive knowledge across all genres and styles of vocal repertoire including opera, art song, and musical theatre ; expertise with all primary singing languages and proficiency in IPA instruction, vocal diction and vocal literature.

Full Time/Part Time

This is a full time, ranked, non-tenure-track, benefit eligible, nine-month faculty appointment. The appointment starts Fall of 2023. The position provides opportunity for ranked promotion. Our university schedule promotes positive work/life balance.

Salary

$50,000 - $55,000, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity. UMKC offers an excellent retirement/benefits package.
