Minimum Qualifications

1. Earned doctoral degree in educational leadership or terminal degree in a closely related field from an accredited institution.
2. Extensive experience and success in K-12 public school principalship and upper-level district leadership (i..e., superintendent or other senior executive district position).
3. Record of or strong potential for scholarly publication.
4. Demonstrated experience and success in (or strong potential for) delivering online pedagogy.
5. Commitment to academic excellence.
6. Demonstrated commitment to the department’s goals.
7. Commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues in teaching, research, and service.
8. Commitment to supporting doctoral students and serving on dissertation committees.

Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)

Not required but considered:
  1. Experience in North Carolina public education.
  2. Experience in one or more major areas of educational leadership (e.g., curriculum, educational policy, human resource management, organizational vitality and change).
  3. Proven success with data collection, analyses, and reporting using a variety of digital tools at the school and district levels.
  4. Prior experience teaching and working with graduate students.

Description of the Department or Unit

The Program in School Administration, within the Department of Leadership and Educational Studies, offers a Master of School Administration ( MSA ) degree, a Graduate Certificate in School Leadership ( GCSL ), and the Education Specialist in Educational Administration (Ed.S) degree leading to superintendent license. Students accepted into the Ed.S Program are also admitted in the Ed.D. program in Educational Leadership. The MSA and the GCSL programs lead to the North Carolina principal’s license. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The ideal candidate is a creative, innovative, and skilled teacher and scholar, committed to academic rigor, justice, and integrity, and devoted to effectively equipping future educational leaders. This person will also be expected to engage in program, department, university, and external service (e.g., program planning, supervising student internships, dissertation committees, university committees, professional engagement). The position will begin in August 2023 for the 2023-24 academic year.
