Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned terminal doctoral degree in occupational therapy or occupational science, or an entry-level degree in occupational therapy combined with a doctoral degree in a related field.
  • Experience in higher education, including curriculum design, distance education, student mentoring, and classroom teaching.
  • Minimum of 5 years practice experience as an occupational therapist.
  • For appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, candidates must demonstrate the potential for effective teaching, student mentoring, and conducting research in the area of expertise. For appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must demonstrate a history of successful teaching at the graduate level, student mentoring, and research productivity. All qualified applicants will be considered.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)

Applications are particularly encouraged from candidates with a diversity of experience in the design and delivery of adult education and training, as well as management of student services (admissions, assistantships, etc.), peer mentoring, and collaboration with intra/ and interprofessional colleagues.

License/Certification Required

Initial certification by NBCOT as an occupational therapist and licensed, or eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in the state of North Carolina.

Description of the Department or Unit

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences includes, in addition to the developing Master of Science program in occupational therapy, an undergraduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders, minors in American Sign Language and Communication Sciences and Disorders, and graduate programs in Athletic Training and Speech-Language Pathology. These professions use a holistic perspective and work to empower people of all ages to improve/restore their functional abilities, fulfill their daily routines and roles, mitigate limitations or disabilities following injury or illness, and live full lives in the context of differing abilities.

Students who graduate from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences will transition into their respective positions as quality healthcare practitioners with enhanced clinical skills, knowledge and values. They will be well-prepared to improve the health and wellness of people across the region, state and world. The Department emphasizes involvement in the areas of interprofessional education, clinical-academic collaboration, and diversity and inclusive excellence.

Appalachian State University’s Beaver College of Health Sciences ( BCHS ) is transforming the health and quality of life for the communities it serves through inclusive practices, interprofessional collaboration and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service and clinical outreach. BCHS supports almost 3,400 students in nine undergraduate degree programs and seven graduate degree programs, organized into six departments: Nursing; Nutrition and Health Care Management; Public Health and Exercise Science; Recreation Management and Physical Education; Rehabilitation Sciences; and Social Work. The academic programs are located in the Holmes Convocation Center on main campus in the Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences, a state-of-the-art, 203,000 square foot facility that is the cornerstone of the Wellness District. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partner with Program Director in solidifying and operationalizing the overall curriculum for the Master of Science program in occupational therapy.
  • Partner with Program Director to prepare for program accreditation process.
  • Provide leadership for the admissions process for MSOT students.
  • Collaborate within department and School to develop and implement Interprofessional education opportunities.
  • Provide leadership on faculty development of distance education competencies.
  • Conduct research in area of clinical/practice/educational expertise.
  • Teach in areas of expertise / experience / interest.
  • Advise MSOT students.
