The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of English Education with a special area of interest in linguistics and/or applied linguistics.
We seek a dynamic teacher scholar with strong interpersonal skills with an earned doctorate in English Education with substantial graduate coursework in linguistics or applied linguistics at the time of appointment. Experience in teaching English Education courses and linguistics or applied linguistics is required. Specialization areas may include but are not limited to English grammar, principles of language, sociolinguistics, & language pedagogy.
An established commitment to teaching excellence and a minimum of 3 years of experience teaching secondary English are essential. Applicants must be able to supervise student teachers in the field, provide outreach to local and broader school communities, and be eligible for North Carolina high school English teaching licensure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position. Teaching load is 3/3, which may include the supervision of student teachers. Faculty are expected to produce at least 2 peer-reviewed publications (or equivalent) every 3 years in order to maintain reassign time for research, otherwise the teaching load is 4/4.
