SUMMARY

  1. routine painting maintenance functions, in-house construction projects and the finishing of cabinets and casework.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Reads work order or receives instructions from supervisor regarding painting.

Evaluates and performs roof repairs on all types of roofs.

Smoothes surfaces and removes old paint from surfaces to prepare surfaces for painting.

Fills mail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster or other filler.

Removes fixtures such as pictures and electric switch covers from walls prior to painting.

Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and covers surfaces such as baseboards, doorframes, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.

Paints new or repaired drywall or plaster walls with brushes, spray guns or paint rollers.

Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform duties.

Assists in the facilities review process by doing annual inspections and providing information for the facilities inventory system.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES. This is a non-supervisory position.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE. High school graduate or GED preferred. Extensive experience in basic painting, wall finishing, and roof repair is required. Previous experience, preferably in a paint or maintenance shop environment is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS. Ability to read, understand and interpret procedure manuals, work orders, equipment operating instructions, blueprints, specifications and general correspondence (i.e.: memos, letters, etc.). Ability to read and accurately complete maintenance requests, time sheets, supply requests, etc.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS. Must have valid Driver’s License and be able to meet the College’s insurance requirements for driving College vehicles.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES. Ability to effectively communicate with staff, students, administration and visitors. Good oral and written communication skills. Computer knowledge (MicroSoft Word and Excel) preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; stand and work on their feet for several hours at a time; bend, stoop, climb ladders and/or stairs; use hands to finger, handle, feel or use a computer keyboard; reach with hands and arms; and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is frequently required to work overhead using a ladder or scaffolding; and talk or hear including the use of a telephone and 2-way radio. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Typically, the employee works indoors, in classroom, business office and athletic facility environments with a moderate noise level. Frequently the employee is required to work in the paint shop doing finish or refinishing work on cabinets and furniture. Occasionally the employee will be required to work outside painting buildings, structures and parking lots doing construction, repair and maintenance functions.
