Nature & Purpose of Position
Leads college in operationally defining, refining, and executing the University, College of Criminal Justice ( COCJ ), and Criminal Justice Center’s ( CJC ) primary strategic priorities. Serves as a member of the college and center’s executive leadership team.
Primary Responsibilities
Serves as a thought-partner to the Dean and trusted advisor to peers on the executive leadership team. Leads the College of Criminal Justice ( COCJ ) in establishing accountability measures and ensures progress and fulfillment of strategic goals and initiatives. Prioritizes student success and access, oversight, management and expansion of premium distance learning program and creates pipeline from non-academic to academic to bachelors’ pipeline between COCJ institutes and academic departments. Aligns facilities to strategic planning with institutional divisions. Provides high level coordination of internal and external stakeholders for reimaging George J. Beto Building. Provides coordination as the building liaison with the IT Strategic Alignment committee. Provides oversight and management of hybrid model of institute state-mandated and professional development training with the goal of reaching a larger audience and program expansion. Plans and directs further expansion of the CJTexas.org website with management of content specialist staff to maintain up-to-date portal for criminal justice information for public use. Monitors and reports progress toward achievement of goals. Directs strategic planning efforts, collaborating with and supporting COCJ academic departments, institutes, and centers in aligning goals and objectives with the University’s top-level priorities. Helps translate goals into executable tactics through identifying responsible parties, needed resources, deadlines, and assessments. Communicates COCJ /CJC’s strategic priorities and implementation plans to internal and external stakeholders. Stays abreast of emerging higher education issues, trends in online learning pedagogy and developments, and institutional impact as they relate to social and political climate. Collaborates with the Chief Strategy Officer and divisions of Academic Affairs, Strategic Enrollment and Innovation, and Finance and Operations in addition to other strategic departments and professionals to assist in informed decision making. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requires a commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of the higher education environment, institutional policies, and procedures. Requires demonstrated competencies in strategic planning with direct experience in implementation, including all aspects of process development and execution. Must have the ability to challenge conventional thinking with new ideas, approaches, and solutions with personal influence to promote transformation and identify new and creative ways to engage and foster innovation. Requires professionalism, confidentiality, organization, prioritization, excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to garner respect and confidence of colleagues through listening, learning, and forging working relationships and synergies across the University. Must have emotional intelligence, a positive attitude, initiative, excellent judgment, good collaborator with demonstrated leadership skills, and be a strategic thinker. Must be able to research and recommend procedural changes to the Dean’s Advisory Council for decision making and implementation.
This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority ( CSA ).
