Position Summary
The Emerging Technologies Librarian is a tenure track academic faculty librarian position reporting to the Director of Libraries. This position is responsible for the Library’s Makerspace tools and services along with the training in the use of the technology. They will promote awareness of new and emerging technologies to improve the patron experiences, library services, and programming. The Emerging Technologies Librarian will maintain knowledge of current trends in emerging technologies and tools relevant to teaching, learning, and research activities.
Major Responsibilities
- Develops and establishes active education and outreach initiatives to familiarize students and faculty with emerging technologies
- Participates in the library instruction program and serves as a liaison to one or more academic departments. To include collaborating and supporting SUNY Cortland’s Computer Applications Program ( CAP ), an interdisciplinary minor that provides students with a deeper understanding of computer applications and systems.
- Provides reference services at a desk, via technology, and by appointment.
- May work evenings and weekends as appropriate ·
- Partners with academic departments to enhance experiential learning for student success.
- Selects and evaluates materials to be added to the library’s collections in collaboration with faculty and other library staff.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in information and/or library science from an ALA -accredited school or an ALA - approved foreign equivalent
- Evidence of or demonstrated knowledge of current trends and new developments in emerging technology trends in libraries
- Experience developing training materials and delivering instruction
- Ability to learn new software, systems, and skills related to emerging technology
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
- Work experience in academic libraries
- Working knowledge in using a 3D printer/scanner, 3D modeling software, and virtual reality technology.
- Supervisory or administrative experience.
- Familiarity with library systems and library software (Alma/Primo, SpringShare,etc)
- Knowledge of best practices in information literacy instruction.
