This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.

The Department of Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) at Texas Christian University invites applications for a Visiting Lecturer who specializes in interdisciplinary approaches to Black Studies. We are particularly interested in candidates with research and teaching interests that include (but are not limited to): Gender, Comparative Approaches (Afro-Latinx, Afro-Asian, etc), Social Movements, Black Southern Studies, Decolonial Studies and/or Queer of Color Critique. Responsibilities center on teaching four courses per semester, including introductory-level courses and an upper-division elective related to the professor's research specialty.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach foundational concepts in race and ethnic studies, including but not limited to colonialism and imperialism, racialization and identity formation, power and hegemony, resistance and social movements, and the intersections of race, class, gender, sexuality, and ability.

Required qualifications:
• A Ph.D. or a terminal degree in Ethnic Studies or similar interdisciplinary field, or in a traditional discipline with significant demonstrated background and experience related to the study of race and racism.
• Ability to teach introductory and upper-division courses on Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies.

Preferred qualifications:
• Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree in Ethnic Studies or a related field.
• Expertise in feminist theories and women and nonbinary people of color politics.
• Experience in community-based participatory teaching, research, or creative activity.

Department Details:

Organized as a program starting in 2015, CRES now includes four full-time faculty positions, administrative support, over 70 affiliated faculty and staff from across the university, and strong and growing support from the TCU administration and the AddRan College of Liberal Arts. The Department offers a major, minor, and graduate certificate in CRES and minors in African American and Africana Studies and Latinx Studies. Our mission is to educate and empower students, faculty, staff, and the larger community to critically examine race and racism and advance equity and justice – social, cultural, environmental, political, and economic – as essential steps in becoming ethical citizens and leaders in today’s global community.

School/College Description:

Named for TCU’s founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 13 departments (Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Women & Gender Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (Army and Air Force). AddRan College departments confer 17 Bachelor of Arts and 7 Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies, an online master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, a Master of Liberal Arts degree, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in History, English, and Rhetoric and Composition.
