Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Vice President is the chief administrative officer for student life. The Vice President is appointed by the President in consultation with the Provost and is a member of the President's Senior Staff.

Founded in 1863, Saint Mary's is a residential campus nestled 20 miles east of San Francisco in the picturesque Moraga Valley. Based in the Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts traditions, Saint Mary's currently enrolls approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs across its four schools of Liberal Arts, Science, Economics and Business Administration, and the Kalmanovitz School of Education. The De La Salle Christian Brothers, the largest teaching order of the Roman Catholic Church across eighty countries, guide the spiritual and academic character of the College.

Responsible to the President and the Provost, the Vice President for Student Life, working in conjunction with other campus leaders across the areas of academics, advancement, athletics, communications, enrollment, facilities, human resources, and mission, will collaborate on animating Transformation 2028, the recently developed institutional strategic plan, fostering a climate of respect and creativity that facilitates the development of students and provide a seamless learning experience that integrates the curricular and co-curricular life of the College community.

The Vice President is responsible for the leadership and implementation of College-wide student services, programs, and initiatives including Housing and Residence Life, New Student & Family Programs, Student Involvement and Leadership, Student Conduct, Student Mission Programs, Intercultural Center, Public Safety, Health and Wellness Center, Joseph Aliotto Recreation Center and club and recreational sports, Counseling Center and the Center for Women and Gender Equity.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the mission of the College, which is informed, animated, and expressed through its Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts traditions, particularly the five Lasallian Core Principles: faith in the presence of God, quality education, respect for all persons, inclusive community, and commitment to the poor and social justice.

Experience and Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Willingness and ability to contribute to the Lasallian Catholic mission of the College.

Appreciation of and deep respect for the learning/teaching environment and for the students, staff and faculty who comprise it and the willingness to become a stakeholder in the Lasallian commitment to that environment.

Academic credentials appropriate to the position, at least a master's degree in higher education, student life, or a related field; preferably the doctorate or equivalent and some teaching experience; increasingly responsible supervisory experience.

Commitment to advocating for the professional development of student life personnel.

Increasingly responsible successful experience working with undergraduates in a residential setting.

Demonstrated success working within a diverse community and understanding of and competency in leading for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging

Willingness to demonstrate commitment to a vibrant student life by actively supporting and participating in campus events.

Proven oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with fluency in Spanish desirable.

Demonstrated experience with budgeting, strategic planning, and assessment processes.

Knowledge of and engagement in national trends in student life, best practices, and benchmark comparisons.
