Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Adjunct – Digital Design & Graphics position provides quality instructions and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with majoremphasis placed on teaching, supportingand evaluating students. The Adjunct role provides instructions and monitors teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chairperson or other leadership members (but in consultation with the Department Chairperson).The incumbent must exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups of people with required and related materials.

Instruction &Student Learning

Teaches assigned courses as scheduled. Designscurriculum while embracing diversity in all forms to foster talent in studentswhile modeling inclusive teaching strategies with an understanding of the socio-cultural issues of traditionally underrepresented groups. Considers individual differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.

Participates in the identification of students with academic and/or other needs and responds by utilizing appropriate resources.

Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of the courses and programs and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of such technology.

Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.

Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades timely, and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester. Distributes and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporates departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements.

Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives.

Engages in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties and professional development.

Student Engagement & Advisement

Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student efforts, academic challenges, student and faculty interactions, and support for learners.

Uses technology to assist in communication with students. Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom.

Refers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College and/or in the community.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED


Bachelor's degree in graphic design, or closely related discipline, and five (5) or more years working in the graphic design industry. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in required software programs and present a strong portfolio of work.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge of online instruction techniques and methods; Microsoft Office; requisite or willing to gain requisite computer skills needed for Blackboard and/or other student support systems; internet research.

Skill in working in and teaching Adobe Suite for designers (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and/or Adobe InDesign) and Corel Painter; advertising design; typography design; providing quality instructions; learning technologies and the use multi-media technologies to enhance student learning; instructional planning and presentation; incorporating critical thinking, effective communications and other general educational outcomes in course content; effective time management; proficiency with online communications and record-keeping.

Ability to demonstrate proficiency in relevant software programs; effectively communicate and use interpersonal skills; create engaging learning environments that respect a wide variety of viewpoints; be sensitive to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities; work independently without ongoing direct supervision; meet deadlines; perform student learning outcomes; maintain confidential and sensitive information, including adherence to FERPA guidelines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

The employee frequently sits for reasonable periods of time, stands and walks. Employee converses verbally or manually with others in person as well as by telephone.
