Position Overview
Primary Purpose of the Position
At Winston-Salem State University ( WSSU ), our new strategic plan WSSU 2030 Unleash the Genius commits our faculty and staff to create a unique, responsive learning experience that unleashes the genius of our students. Our faculty must provide our students with a high-quality educational experience in a culturally engaging campus environment where they thrive as learners, scholars, and leaders. To actualize this commitment, faculty in the Department of Social Work in the School of Health Sciences seek a tenure-track Assistant Professor who is committed to student success, scholarly productivity, and engagement. The ideal candidate for this position will have availability to begin in this role in August 2023.
The Assistant Professor of Social Work has the unique responsibility of engaging diverse learners in high-quality instruction within the classroom while concurrently designing experiential learning outside the classroom. WSSU expects its faculty to leverage high impact practices where instructors immerse students in “hands on” authentic learning opportunities such as applied research, community engagement, study abroad, and internship experiences. By using these instructional approaches, faculty develop our students’ power skills—critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal communication, critical literacy, teamwork, and leadership—to prepare them for significant impact in the workforce and servant leadership within the communities where they reside. As an institution that values research, WSSU also expects its faculty to produce original scholarship that adds value to the existing body of knowledge within the discipline area; thus, the ideal candidate must prepare manuscripts within the discipline area or within peer-reviewed journals that promote teaching and learning of the discipline, facilitate presentations at well-respected meetings and conferences within the discipline, and engage in the procurement of extramural funding that supports an active research agenda.
