Position Summary

The primary purpose of the Student Success and Class Schedule Specialist is to provide independent administrative and analytical support along with recommendations to the Dean's office in the College of Health and Human Services. Duties will include college level coordination and expertise for class schedule development and leadership related to Reappointment, Tenure and Promotion and Periodic Evaluation processes. The Student Success and Class Schedule Specialist will provide support to both the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and will serve as the subject matter expert in managing student success and student involvement initiatives. Additional duties will include coordinating special events, including Explore SDSU and Commencement. The Student Success and Class Schedule Specialist will also provide back up, on an as-needed basis, to other positions in the Dean's office. This position has a high level of responsibility for the coordination and implementation of student success initiatives which requires sound and independent judgment.

This position requires a working knowledge of a variety of programs and policies, the ability to train others in complex processes, and strong leadership skills.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The College of Health and Human Services includes five academic schools, clinics, doctoral programs, in addition to certificate programs and credential programs. There are over 200 full and part-time faculty and approximately 50 clerical and technical employees. We offer a balanced educational experience of academic study, field placement, clinical experiences, student international experiences and research opportunities. There are approximately 5000 students, including graduate students.

The Dean directs the College with the support of two Associate Deans, one Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, a Director of Resource Management, and multiple administrative support positions The Dean's Office is responsible for all activities emanating from the creation, implementation, provision and continued support of the instructional, operational, and research processes in the College.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Key Qualifications
    • Three years of experience with academic class scheduling and curriculum development processes is preferred
    • Demonstrated experience supporting leaders in an organization
    • Experience developing and facilitating training workshops for faculty and staff
    • Understanding of student success metrics
    • Experience coordinating, organizing, or overseeing complex special events
    • Four years administrative experience working in a complex office or academic environment is preferred
    • Experience working with diverse student populations
    • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
    • Familiarity with the organizational structure within Student and Academic Affairs in an educational setting

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,719 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,170- $7,545 per month.
