Position Summary

The Facilities Worker II is a member of the Office of Housing Administration team. In conjunction with the Director, Associate Directors, other managers, staff, and students, this position assists in carrying out the mission, vision, and values, of the Office of Housing Administration and is responsible for supporting and contributing to an atmosphere that facilitates respect, inclusivity, collaboration, and growth. Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Facilities Worker II performs a variety of complex semi-skilled and basic maintenance, repair, and renovation tasks.

The objective of this position is to provide an “Industry Best Practice” preventive maintenance organization to the SDSU Community. The Facilities Worker II is expected to maintain properly functioning equipment, a safe and clean working environment and thorough and accurate accounting of time and materials. This position is also responsible for completion of routine work assignments and the performance of additional duties as assigned. Consistent meeting of university needs in a timely and professional manner with increasingly improved skill. The Facilities Worker II will follow up on every project or task to ensure that all items are completed to the satisfaction of the supervisor/manager. The Facilities Worker II is also responsible for attendance record, punctuality and consistent meeting of deadlines. The incumbent will perform work in a manner that supports and facilitates the work of others in the Physical Plant and the university community. The Facilities Worker II will also maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with members of the department and campus community.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Office of Housing Administration (OHA) is a self-funded operation responsible for planning, providing, and administering housing operations, services, and facilities with over 100 employees and over 150 student assistants with an annual operating budget exceeding $128,000,000. OHA provides housing for over 8,500 students in 23 communities with over 2 million sq. ft. of residential facilities. The OHA manages the operation of residence halls, apartments, and conference and event spaces. The OHA supports the educational mission of the Residential Education Office (REO) while providing business operations for all housing-related functions in support of a quality environment to enhance the student educational experience.

The Department of Facilities Services is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel, and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university. Facilities Services employs over 200 employees (full-time and students) and supports approximately 8 million square feet of buildings (including residence halls and parking structures) and 280 acres of improved and unimproved land with an operating budget of approximately $40,000,000.

Education and Experience

The abilities of the Facilities Worker II normally would be acquired through any combination of experience and training equivalent to three years of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair, or comparable experience as a trades assistant or laborer with demonstrated proficiency in the required duties.

Key Qualifications
  • Experience performing work in one or more of the following trades: Painting, Carpentry, HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing, or closely related field.
  • The following certifications are preferred: APPA EFP Credential and/or LEED Green Associate

Licenses and/or Certifications Required

Valid California Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,197 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,197 - $6,532 per month.
