Community Assistant, Global Scholars
About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY:
The Community Assistant, Global Scholars is an entry level live in staff member that is responsible for directly supporting the physical, emotional, social, and academic needs of our first-year Global Scholars students. In addition to supporting these students, this position will serve as part of the Global Pathways Network and the Residential Life team to focus on creating positive and valuable experiential learning opportunities. Experiential programs will aid the students in their academic coursework, help orient them to the Bay Area, and community building student programming within the residences/campus life.
This entry-level live in position requires attendance during a mandatory training period beginning July 2023 in Boston. Training will also consist of hybrid experiences and on ground exercises on the Oakland campus in July and August 2023.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Coordinate and plan student programs and excursions. These
programs can be during the day, in the evenings, and/or on the
weekends
- Mentor first-year students who are not only entering college
for the first time, but adjusting to studying away from
home
- Encourage student academic success, respond to student
concerns, and connect students to academic, medical, and mental
health resources
- Monitor student behavioral policies and protocols, upholding a
high standard of student conduct
- Maintain the safety and well-being of the residential
population by serving in a 24/7 on-call rotation and conducting
regular rounds of student residences
- Respond to crisis by interacting with campus public safety,
Oakland Student health center, and limited engagement with
student's parents.
- Act as the point of contact for student and staff safety and
security during crises and
- Be an on-call emergency contact during entire duration of
program
- Liaise in conjunction with the GEO Pathway Programs staff to
meet Northeastern's Global Network educational goals and
objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and related Residential Life experience
preferred
- 1-2 years of demonstrated student service experience or higher
education experience in a residence life or student affairs
capacity, which includes experience living with or working with
high school or undergraduate students (in residence life, student
affairs, camp counselor, or related role)
- Experience living, working, or studying abroad or in vastly
different cultures/communities
- Ability to demonstrate intercultural sensitivity and global
awareness
- Demonstrated flexibility and experience with crisis
management
- Proven ability to work well as a member of a close-knit
team
- Experience managing, facilitating and curating events for large
groups with enthusiasm and attention to detail
- Fluent in English
The expected hiring range for this position is $22.51 per hour based on the position's scope and responsibilities.
