Head of Partnerships

About the Opportunity

Northeastern University invites applications for the position to lead Partnerships for our newest campus in Oakland, California.

The Head of Partnerships and Operations at Oakland Campus will provide the leadership to oversee all aspects of partnership development and execution at the campus, and coordinate and harmonize Bay Area partnership efforts from across the ten Northeastern Colleges, who also will have a partnership presence in region.

This leader must work hand-in-hand with the leadership team of the campus, and across the university, to build a culture that drives value for our partners. The position requires an entrepreneurial spirit and strategic vision to guide growth.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities in partnership development will begin with developing and iterating on an overall strategic plan for partnership development: What are we asking of our partners? What are the different levels of partnership? Who are the ideal partners at each level? What are the best strategies to approach, build and sustain partnerships?

A critical responsibility for this role will be the solicitation and development of partnerships. This will include engaging with potential industry partners and curating experiences with Northeastern that demonstrate the capacity and growth of the university to our partners. The ultimate goal of these conversations is to bring our partners to agreement on the scope of engagement with the University across learning and research.

As the scope of the partnerships develops, this leader will work internally to build buy-in from the necessary groups across the University in order to ensure delivery of the partnered collaboration work products.

After agreement, responsibilities will include all aspects of ensuring that the University makes good on all commitments - and aspires to exceed them. This leader will have a keen eye toward relationship management, both between the partner and their team and importantly that the partner has relationships across the university so that the partner has deep learning and research ties that demonstrate the power of the partnership.

Looking more broadly than corporate partnerships, which are the critical core of this position, this leader will work with the executive leadership to think through stakeholder engagement across the city, state, and region, including across corporate, education, civic, government and non-profit sectors.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree Required, MBA preferred
  • Critical qualifications include the ability to work with corporate leadership to close partnership agreements and the entrepreneurial skills to build a campus from a vision.
  • Higher education, corporate strategic planning, and/or business partnership development experience required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, including previous experience working with executive-level leaders.
  • Progressively responsible leadership in a high-energy environment developing and working with an innovation leadership agenda
  • Experience managing teams
  • Highly-developed communication skills (written/verbal)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions in a timely manner based on thoughtful analysis and critical judgment.
  • Organizational tact and diplomacy; possesses superb interpersonal skills required to develop close relationships with external partners and key influencers around campus and the broader University.
  • Demonstrated ability to build internal and external collaborations, finding solutions benefiting all parties and focusing on long-term success over short-term results.
  • Ability to serve as an ambassador for the University in the region.

The expected hiring range for this position is USD $141,900 to USD $184,470, based upon the position's scope and responsibilities.
