Job Summary
The Director, Tennis Facility Operations, under general direction, is responsible for and directs the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the tennis complex operations. Provides administrative and logistics coordination support to and coaching for the Women's and Men's Tennis programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall supervision of tennis operations,
facilities maintenance and staffing of the tennis
complex.
- Responsible for the development, management and successful
coaching of the Men's and Women's Tennis programs to include
scheduling, recruiting, equipment management, reporting scores and
statistics and website updating.
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and
Associate Vice President of Finance and Administration as a liaison
to include the review and execution of contracts with the City of
Laredo and other constituencies.
- Evaluate and develops current and future programs.
- Develops long and short-term goals for the department. Develops
new initiatives to meet the needs of target populations.
- Institutes departmental policies and procedures.
- Develops, implements, and manages the budget for the tennis
complex operations.
- Directs departmental staff.
- Develops a comprehensive risk management program. Develops and
implements marketing strategies.

Additional Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance
rules, policies, and procedures as well as ethical standards of
behavior. Ensure satisfactory academic performance of
student-athletes. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social
welfare of student-athletes, including issues related to gender,
ethnic diversity, and sexual orientation. Establish and ensure a
safe environment for student-athletes that includes providing
education about and methods for discussing and resolving harassment
or discrimination. Contribute to the maintenance of good working
relationships with all athletics staff members and student-athletes
through a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, respect
for the competencies of others and appropriate conflict resolution
behavior.
- Learn, understand, and adhere to all NCAA guidelines and
maintain up-to-date roster, squad lists, and other information
using the Compliance Assistant Internet (CAI) program. Coordinate
and develop organized schedules and submit weekly countable hour
reports according to NCAA policy.
- Prepare budgetary recommendations for improvements and facility
maintenance for the tennis complex.
- Monitors business volume forecast and plans for manpower,
productivity, costs and other expenses.
- Supervise all tennis play and proper charging of fees and
equipment.
- Assist to propagate a comprehensive public relations program.
Initiates, directs and promotes clinics, special events and
programs in an effort to attract and maintain community interest in
tennis.
- Monitors court usage including special events, clinics and
lessons. Coordinate preparation of tennis camp
operations.
- Participate in long range planning and assessment, attend all
departmental training sessions and meetings, read and comply with
all departmental policy manuals.
- Perform administrative duties, at the discretion of the
Director of Athletics, including providing community representation
for the Athletics Department
Minimum Requirements
- Education - Bachelor's degree
- Experience - Ten years of related experience in tennis facility
operations and coaching at a college or university
level.
- Supervisory Experience - a minimum of 3 years supervisory
experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be
considered.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Recreational facility operations and management.
- Budgeting and risk management.
- Contract negotiation
Ability to:
- Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Licensing / Professional Certification - None

Supervision of Others
This position generally supervises employees.
Other Requirements
It is anticipated that the day-to-day operations and maintenance duties will constitute 40% of the workload and coaching and recruiting duties will constitute 60% of the workload, with the corresponding salary made up of these components, as well.
- Weekend and evening work will be required.
- Position requires on campus, face-to-face
interactions.
- Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance
on campus and in the workplace.
