Position Description

The Department of Marital and Family Therapy at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications for a Temporary full-time Lecturer position at the rank of Lecturer (12-month) with the appointment starting in Spring 2023.

Marital & Family Therapy Department

The Department of Marital and Family Therapy offers a 64-unit Master of Science (M.S.) degree evaluated by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) required to pursue a license as a marriage and family therapist in California. The program aligns with the educational and clinical standards outlined by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). The program includes family therapy theories, techniques, research in couples, marriage, family, and therapy, emphasis in diversity and social justice, and 300 client contact hours of supervised clinical traineeship in the greater Los Angeles area communities. The program adheres to a full-time cohort model to complete the program requirements within three years. Courses are offered primarily in the evening to accommodate those who work during the day.

The MFT Clinical Director/Lecturer (CTD) is responsible for the clinical field training experience of all MFT students and reports to the MFT Department Chair. Half of the responsibilities involve direct oversight of the Clinical Training segment of the MFT Program. The MFT-CTD is the primary liaison between student trainees and numerous community sites located throughout Orange or LA counties. The CTD has direct oversight (i.e., collection, and review) of supervisor evaluations for each MFT trainee. The other half of the MFT -CTD's responsibilities includes a combination of teaching, supervision, student advisement, and department activities. The successful candidate will be a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a CA state-Approved Supervisor or an AAMFT Approved Supervisor or a CAMFT certified Supervisor and has experience working in community mental health settings. Candidates should be familiar with California state licensure regulations and requirements and have excellent management and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Administrative
  • Be familiar with COAMFTE accreditation requirements, AAMFT requirements for membership and approved supervisor status, Board of Behavioral Sciences requirements for licensure and state & national professional organizations, their requirements, policies and procedures, and their codes of ethics.
  • Assist sites to understand and conform to CSUDH's standards and requirements. Provide mentorship to site supervisors as needed.
  • Assist students with all aspects of clinical training placement. This includes providing trainings on practicum and internship requirements and working with the program to assess students' readiness for clinical practice. Work with students and sites to handle and resolve problem situations.
  • Managing related paperwork for student clinical experiences (clinical experiences handbook, all documentation via TEVERA; track student client contact hours, clinical skills, and professional development over time
  • Develop, approve, and maintain community practicum sites.
  • Facilitate annual practicum fairs with CAMFT and other MFT programs to allow students and site supervisors to interact and explore placement options.
  • Review student, site, and practicum instructor documentation to ensure compliance with program mandates; Provide campus availability for student contact, interaction with faculty and practicum instructors.
  • Work with the Administrative Assistant/Graduate Assistant to monitor student compliance with training requirements and data collection.
  • Attend monthly and/or semi-monthly department faculty and administrative meetings, and participate in program related activities, including interview day, graduation, etc.

  • Teaching MFT courses per semester in the MFT master's program
  • Supervision of MFT trainees (as part of teaching load)
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum improvements.
  • Advise students as needed.

  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have experience in teaching graduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • A master's degree in Marital & Family Therapy, or related field with knowledge and experience in MFT relational/systemic therapy and supervision.
  • Experience as a licensed Marital & Family Therapist with a minimum of two years “post”- licensing experience.
  • The candidate must be a CA-state approved Supervisor, or an AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Candidate or a CAMFT certified Supervisor.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Includes administrative and or supervisory experience in community mental health.
  • More than two years of experience teaching or supervising MFT students
  • Current or previous experience and membership with either of the professional organizations that affect marital & family therapists (American Association of Marital & Family Therapists-AAMFT or California Association of Marital & Family Therapists-CAMFT) and familiarity with California law for MFTs.

    Background Check

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.     Additional Information

    The full-time Lecturer (12-Month) classification salary range is $6,190 to $13,797.00 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
