Position Title
Assistant Costume Shop Supervisor

Overview

Provides support and assistance to the Costume Shop Supervisor.

Essential Duties:

1. Construct costumes for productions. Organize research from costume designers and follow designer’s instructions.

2.. Train and supervise the student costume crew that makes the entirety of costumes for TDF productions.

3. In conjunction with the Costume Shop Supervisor, oversee the costume collection and organize loans and donations of costume pieces.

4. Design and produce reports and research data and information on the Internet. Perform intermediate and advanced computer functions including managing databases, create, analyze, integrate and import linked spreadsheets; create mail, envelope, and table merges; create and edit captions, add graphics, edit images, footnotes, endnotes, indices, tables of content, and create master documents and reports using information from several sources.

5. May identify and make recommendations for additional or modified departmental systems. With approval, may design and implement new or modified systems.

6. Prepare and maintain records, files, and databases, some of which may be confidential. Monitor budgets and other financial activities that may require proficiency with math.

7. May be responsible for the accuracy, maintenance, and reconciliation of financial accounts, processing of payments, transmittal reports, billing, and data entry into the accounts payable system.

8. May, with supervision, organize and coordinate special projects including presentations, educational programs, or special events.

Marginal Duties:

1. Perform all other duties as may be required.

Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Design and Technology preferred.
  • Three to five years’ of related experience in costume design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Pattern drafting from designer’s renderings, fit and alter garments, fabric cutting, hand sewing, machine sewing, and tailoring.
  • Organization of budgets.
  • Ability to train students.
  • Experience researching designs.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and multi-task.
  • Experience with garment construction and pattern drafting.
  • Theatrical costume experience.
  • Working knowledge of costume machinery and fabric dyeing.
