Department Summary
Situated within a nationally recognized research institution, the Department of Art attracts students and faculty who value the study of studio art in the context of a larger intellectual and critical environment. Our curriculum reflects a diverse and fluid set of creative practices and critical methodologies. Students engage broad and interdisciplinary approaches, as well as depth within specific media and practices. A robust visiting lecture series, bringing 10-15 artists, critics and curators to campus each year, complements the curriculum. Nationally and internationally active, the faculty thrive on making connections between their individual studio practices and teaching. While we have diverse backgrounds, philosophies and approaches, we have a strong commitment to a collective mission and a shared governance model.

Position Summary
This is an open hiring pool for instructors. Positions are typically limited duration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years. In limited circumstances, there is the possibility of renewal beyond three years based on programmatic need, funding, and performance. In rare occasions, we may hire ongoing career instructors from this pool. Potential courses may include studio courses in sculpture, fibers, art & technology, painting/drawing, ceramics, printmaking, foundations, and photography.

Minimum Requirements
An MFA degree from an accredited institution. In exceptional circumstances, significant professional experience in a relevant field may substitute for the degree.

Professional Competencies
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in teaching a range of Art studio courses in media areas such as sculpture, fibers, art & technology, painting/drawing, ceramics, printmaking, foundations, and photography.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include prior college or university-level teaching experience, and, for instructors in the art & technology courses, capability of teaching a fine-arts approach to interactivity (programming approaches such as processing, pure data, quartzcomposer and others), video production, animation, web-based art and design, and print design media.
