The Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full time, non-tenured, renewable faculty position, at the rank of Industry Assistant Professor, with a start date of September 1, 2023. The Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) in the Tandon School of Engineering is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to the application of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in the service of urban communities across the globe. CUSP offers graduate programs in Applied Urban Science and Informatics, empowering our students with the knowledge and technical expertise to make cities around the world more productive, livable, equitable, and resilient.  Situated on NYU’s Brooklyn campus and with access to a world-class facility, CUSP’s educational programs combine the development of science, technology and engineering skills with experiential learning focused on how to apply those skills to affect positive change in the world.

Description

CUSP seeks candidates that have expertise in any of the following areas: urban data science (including data visualization, data management and analysis, data-driven urban data modeling), urban monitoring (including sensing and robotics), and machine learning (including deep learning and AI). We are interested in candidates with a focus on the intersection between cities, science, technology, and social good.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., degrees in engineering, computer science and the social sciences), with a strong record of industry or public-sector experience, technical innovation, and/or scholarship in CUSP’s areas of focus. Candidates are expected to have a strong record of excellence in teaching and mentorship at all levels, from introductory to advanced studies. We especially seek faculty colleagues who have multi- or transdisciplinary academic backgrounds and whose work is concerned with themes of social/civic engagement, governance, sustainability, liveability, resilience, and/or justice.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual (9 month) base salary range for this position is $85,000 - $115,000 for the Industry Assistant Professor rank and $90,000 - $130,000 for the Industry Associate Professor rank.  New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
