Job Summary
The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a non-tenure track appointment for an Assistant Professor of Practice starting Fall 2023. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated expertise in (a) teacher education and reading and (b) teaching a mix of hybrid, online, and face-to-face courses. The College of Education and Psychology is home to the School of Education, the Department of Psychology and Counseling, and the University Academies - 3 laboratory schools, that serve as a platform for aligned research. The laboratory schools provide opportunities for research in rural, suburban, and small urban settings including Title I. This is a full-time non-tenure track position with a nine-month academic year appointment in the School of Education within the College of Education and Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is contingent upon funding by the university.
Essential Functions
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Teach undergraduate courses in teacher education and reading.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in reading or at least eighteen (18) graduate hours in reading.
- Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in PreK-12 school settings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in reading.
- University teaching experience with face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction.
- Experience with mentoring/coaching teachers.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
