Position Title: Assistant/Associate Professor, Science Education

Job Summary

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a 9-month, tenure track position as an Assistant or Associate Professor in Science Education beginning Fall 2023.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This position has a priority focus on PK-12 science education.  Successful candidates will 1) cultivate and maintain a successful program of research and scholarship, 2) teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in both traditional and online formats, including science teaching methods for PK-12 preservice and in-service teachers, 3) actively seek external funding opportunities commensurate with rank, and 4) engage in service to the university and community, and professional organizations. Candidates will also have a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving culturally and linguistically diverse students. 

Required qualifications

Required qualifications for appointment at the Assistant level include:  

  • an earned doctorate in science education or curriculum and instruction, teaching and learning, teacher education (or related discipline) with expertise in science education (awarded by August 2023) a demonstrated potential to engage in high-quality research and grant writing knowledge of and/or experience in preservice and graduate science teacher preparation an ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of faculty, students, and school personnel a minimum of two years K-12 science teaching experience

Additional required qualifications for appointment at the Associate level include:  

  • a defined research agenda and a strong record of scholarly publications evidence of prior grant funding evidence of strong undergraduate and/or graduate teaching at the higher education level, particularly in science teacher education evidence of working collaboratively with a diverse group of faculty, students, and school personnel to cultivate an equitable and inclusive professional environment

Preferred qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience related to PK-12 science teaching and teacher education, an established track record of grant writing with experiences as a principal investigator or co-investigator, a record of securing external funding for research and/or program growth and expansion, ability to supervise prospective teachers in clinical settings, PK-12 science teaching experience beyond the required two years, and a documented history of collaboration with PK-12 school partners. Ideal candidates for the position will be able to teach courses partially or fully in Spanish.

Department and College Information

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers undergraduate teacher certification programs in elementary bilingual and ESL education, middle-level and secondary education, and special education. An expanding offering of on-campus and online certification, endorsements, and master's degree programs in areas such as literacy education, "Mind, Brain, and Education, mathematics education, and science education, with additional online programs in the planning stages.
