Associate Professor

Job Summary:
Coppin State University, A fully accredited institution and a member of the University System of Maryland is accepting applications for a full-time Department Chair-Associate Professor, for the Department of Psychology, Counseling, and Behavioral Health. Founded in 1900 Coppin is an urban residential historically black university, serving nearly 3,000 students enrolled in day, evening, weekend, and online courses. The undergraduate students focus of study may be in Psychological Services with/without a Concentration in Alcohol and Substance Abuse, or Rehabilitation Services, leading to a B.S. Degree. Graduate level training offers a M.S. in Addiction Counseling or a M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Counseling. The full-time Associate Professor faculty position is a ten-month position that includes teaching, advising and academic Committee Membership responsibilities. The Department Chair position includes a separate contract for a two (2) month appointment to cover the summer, and for all associated administrative duties.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Deliver instruction to courses within the Department.
• Coordinate support to students including in the areas of retention, Progression, and graduation of students.
• Coordinate delivery o academic programs and unit strategic planning and assessment in accordance with the Department, College, and University mission.
• Hiring and evaluation of department personnel, to include faculty and staff along with department budgeting and resource management.
• Other duties as needed to support the Department and College

Required Qualifications

Education:
Must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or Counseling from an accredited university.

Experience:
A proven and successful track record that reflects the detailed duties and responsibilities of the position(s). Must have at least 5 years experience as a senior faculty and program coordinator and have enough experience to be appointed at the Associate Professor status

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrate Leadership/ Academic/Scholarly and Administrative Experience. Demonstrate effective communication skills and ability to lead effectively.

Physical Demands of Position:
Requirements are within the general range of an office environment.
