Job Summary

The Lecturer, Science Reference Librarian position in the Libraries’ Public Services department reports directly to the Head of Reference and Access Services. The Science Librarian is responsible for selecting, de-selecting and maintaining library materials, in all formats, in the subject area of science and nursing. This position is also responsible for providing reference desk service, including weekend and evening hours; providing individual and group instruction for faculty and students on the use of library resources; developing library instructional aids in support of disciplinary needs in assigned subject areas; acting as liaison to faculty, staff, researchers, and students in the subject areas of science and the general public; promoting awareness of, and access to library resources; maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers, other members of the university community and the general public; maintaining an awareness of current developments in library science; participating in professional development and service activities; writing grants as applicable; database searching, and maintenance and upgrading of skills needed to perform and teach searching for information; service on library, university, and professional committees; and performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program
    2. Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
    3. Strong service orientation
    4. Demonstrated experience and familiarity with searching online databases and the Internet
    5. Experience with microcomputer applications
    6. Working knowledge of HTML
    7. Ability to work with users of varying technical abilities
