Job Summary
The Job Coach will provide on-the-job support to students in the SEA@FGCU program. The Job Coach’s main responsibilities are to ensure students experience a successful supported employment internship and provide additional support to students in vocational courses. Students complete internships with a variety of employers in the community while working on resume writing, interviewing skills, and general vocational skills on FGCU’s campus.
Job Description
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop and implement strategies to help students overcome employment-related challenges.
- Collect data and maintain accurate record of students’ progress.
- Liaison between program coordinator and employer to ensure a positive experience for all parties.
- Teaching students hard and soft skills related to their position. Scaffolding back supports as student independence increases.
- Consulting with program coordinator on student progress and areas of needed support.
- Reviewing student resumes and providing feedback.
- Practicing interviewing skills with students.
- Providing academic support related to vocational courses to students during weekly meetings.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Education Paraprofessional certification
- Previous job coaching experience with a high school transition program, post-secondary transition program, community service provider, etc.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications

- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Sound knowledge of a variety of jobs and career paths.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to collect accurate and reliable data with fidelity.
- Promote a common purpose consistent with stated University goals and demonstrate a commitment to students and the learning environment.
- Possess the knowledge of general written standards and procedures utilized, and have the ability to read, interpret, and follow procedural and policy manual related to the job tasks.
- Demonstrate the ability to respond to supervision, guidance and direction in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies.
- Provide quality customer service by creating a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Present a professional image in word, action and attire.
- Demonstrate professionalism in dealing with a diverse population while understanding and respecting each other’s view of the world, personalities and working styles.
- Apply effective techniques to create working relationships with others to achieve common goals; successfully communicates and collaborates with others to achieve goals.
- Demonstrate skills necessary to look at situations and processes critically to make recommendations for improvement.
