Schedule Information: Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m - 4:30 p.m. (Some evenings may be required for events and activities)

Hours per Week: 37.5

Duties of Position: Provides leadership for the day-to-day operations of the Center for Student Veterans & Military Connected Students, advises the Student Veterans Association (SVA), and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to provide resources, services, and programming.

Coordinates and monitors daily operations of the Center for Student Veterans & Military-Connected Students, including the direct supervision of VA Work Study Students.

Creates and administers the annual budget and goals for the Center. Develops and administers yearly assessment plans to evaluate usage, effectiveness, and satisfaction with the Veteran’s programs and services.

Provides planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of events and activities conducive to student veteran development and success, as well as oversee development and implementation of special projects and programs.

Applies an in-depth knowledge to explain the usage of VA educational benefits, to include application process, advisement of various educational benefits available to veterans and dependents and directs students concerning eligibility for benefits to the Harper College Certifying Official.

Develops campus and community engagement opportunities for active military, student Veterans, active & inactive military/veteran spouses and family members.

Collaborates closely with key Harper College departments including Financial Aid, One Stop, Advising, Counseling, Tutoring Center, Writing Center, Access and Disability Services to ensure effective student veteran and military connected students support services.

Collaborates with community partners and Veteran services organizations to offer information, programs, and workshops for Harper Veterans and military-connected students; schedules such opportunities within the Center or on campus as practical.

Acts as liaison between Harper College and local and national resources/partners serving Veteran and Military Connected individuals.

Oversee student staffing within the Center; assisting with recruitment, hiring, training, development, and day-to-day direction .

Serves as primary staff advisor to the Student Veterans Association and assists with the production of major student programs, including Veterans Celebration, Veteran Welcome, and the Red, White and Blue Graduation Cord Ceremony.

Participates in and attends all Student Veterans Association events and assists in the recruitment and retention of student leaders through Student Engagement.

Seeks knowledge and understanding regarding existing and new Veteran acts or policies with the ability to articulate the meaning and impact to students as they arise in a timely manner.

Provides education to faculty and staff on the College’s Military and Veteran Ally Program (MVAP) and provides policy recommendations to ensure an inclusive and welcoming educational environment for Active Duty, Veteran and Military Connected students.

Responsible for critical monthly and yearly College-wide reports summarizing the efforts and effectiveness of Veteran and Military Connected services.

Assists with the coordination and implementation of campus activities, events and programs that cultivate a strong sense of community, enhance co-curricular learning, promotes the eight-dimensions of wellness, develops student leaders, promotes student engagement within the college community, and supports the general functions of Student Engagement.

Functions as a generalist within the department of Student Engagement, with responsibility for special projects as assigned by the Manager, including service on division and/or College-wide committees, task forces, and special-project working groups.

Ensure diversity, equity and inclusion are integral to the design, planning and implementation of all programs and services, marketing materials and participation opportunities.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements: B achelor's degree required. Master's Degree preferred in college student personnel, higher education administration, or a related field.

Experience Requirements: At least one year of community college/university student programming experience and working with student Veterans preferred. Must have worked in environments requiring an operational knowledge of the policies, services, and activities of the Veterans Educational program, Veteran Affairs, and Veteran Service. Must have strong communication with various audiences and customer service skills, including speaking, writing, and the ability to offer dynamic, professional presentations. Experience with e-mail, social media, and Microsoft Office
