Job Summary:

The Olin Library at Rollins College is seeking an Interlibrary Loan Specialist to join their team! Reporting to the Head of Collections, the Interlibrary Loan Specialist is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of interlibrary loans and documenting delivery services, using Odyssey, OCLC, Rapid, and other resources as needed to fill borrowing and lending requests. Other duties include monitoring workflow, developing and documenting procedures, troubleshooting problems, compiling statistics and reports, and training and supervising the work of student assistants in interlibrary loan processes.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Interlibrary Loan services; process borrowing interlibrary loan requests from students, faculty, staff, and other patrons authorized to use these services; process lending requests from libraries and other institutions; process document delivery requests.
  • Provide interlibrary loan training, collaborative supervision, direction, problem-solving assistance, and performance evaluation to student assistants.
  • Operate the OCLC interlibrary loan systems, ILLiad and Odyssey, Rapid, e-mail, and Alma.
    Prepare and ensure mail and delivery of materials.
  • Collect, report, and analyze data regarding ILL activity and services, including annual copyright and collection development reports.
  • Assume responsibility for the most effective delivery of materials.
  • Manage, monitor, report, and analyze the Interlibrary Loan expenditures.
  • Process billing and fines.
  • Contact vendors and service providers like Atlas, OCLC, and Rapid for troubleshooting and renewal agreements.
  • Work collaboratively with other library staff; suggest and adopt new policies and services; and develop and document operating procedures.
  • Engage in training and professional development appropriate to library goals and objectives.
Minimum
Qualifications & Education:
  • Associate's Degree and/or one year equivalent work experience.
  • Work experience in public service/customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Problem-solving skills, flexibility, initiative, and resourcefulness.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality services to library users.
  • Flexibility in a changing technological environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise and train student assistants.
Preferred
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of basic library operations and cataloging.
  • Familiarity with Interlibrary Loan practices and policies.
  • Familiarity with US Copyright Law as it applies to resource sharing.
Work Environment:

  • Customer service role on campus. Office and library environment, requiring frequent sitting and desk-based tasks.
  • Work requires some visual strain with the use of a computer.
  • Work may require some physical strain when lifting or moving fifteen- to fifty-pound boxes of documents.
  • Overtime and a flexible work schedule may be required as needed.
