Job Summary:
Coppin State University (www.coppin.edu) invites qualified candidates to apply for an Adjunct Computer Science Faculty. The successful candidate should have a master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Candidates must be able to teach both lower and upper level undergraduate courses on Blackboard Ultra in computer science, cybersecurity engineering and information sciences, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement. Classes are taught day, evening, and weekend. Teaches computer science and/or cybersecurity students on­ground and can preferably use C++, Java, Python, Linux OS, and VMware. Use of Mathematica, MATLAB, and Ras appropriate is encouraged. For the purposes of reappointment, emphasis will be placed on teaching effectiveness, class learning evaluation, and grade reporting promptness.

This is a semester-by-semester contractual position, reporting to the Chair of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department and communication skills are necessary.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Teach lower-level and an advanced diverse set of computer science and/or cybersecurity engineering courses to students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science, information technology, and computer science-related subjects. For details of courses visit: https://tinyurl.com/ COSC -Courses
  • More specifically, instruct JAVA programming language as a vehicle to teach skills relevant to sound professional programming and Data Structures content. Prepare and use programming language projects using C++, Java, and Python as appropriate for a computer science course description. Also, be able to use Linux OS and VMware for computer science students in the classroom.
  • Attend faculty development meetings.
  • A maximum of three courses (3-credit hours or a combination of 4-credit hours) or less workload is assigned to accommodate the availability suitable to the adjunct’s schedule.
  • Fostering rigorous, inclusive, and high-impact learning environments for a diverse student body.
Required Qualifications

Education:
  • Minimum of a master’s degree holder in computer science, engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher learning by the start date in a related discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with faculty colleagues, and underrepresented student groups on pedagogical faculty development activities.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse student population. Teaching undergraduate computer science course experience is required. The ability to use computer science AI and Machine Learning Software tools is encouraged. Experiential knowledge of C++, Java, Python, Linux OS, and VMware in the faculty computing lab and classroom labs is desirable.
  • Able to teach in the synchronous (currently using Panopto with Bb Ultra) online environment.
  • Able to maintain confidential information about students and department grades and advising records.
  • The successful candidate must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.
Physical Demands of Position:
Work is performed in a normal office and classroom environment, Computer Science AI/Cyber labs, and classroom.
