Position Description

The Department of Biology at Texas State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position specializing in biology education .
The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Develop an externally funded research program within the general field of Biology Education involving graduate students
  • Publish original research in peer-reviewed research journals
  • Teach both graduate and undergraduate courses in the Department of Biology
  • Provide service (e.g., committee membership) within the university community

The Biology Department at Texas State University is a large, multidisciplinary department with 50 faculty members engaging in innovative research ranging from aquatic resources, cell/molecular biology, microbiology, physiology, genetics, and animal behavior to ecology, evolution, and biogeography, including science education and human dimensions. Department members have access to seven university-owned, impressive properties, including the 3,500-acre Freeman Ranch and The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment.

Founded in 1899 as a normal school, Texas State University is a doctoral-granting university located in San Marcos, a city of about 65,000 residents situated in the beautiful Central Texas Hill Country, 30 miles south of Austin and 48 miles north of San Antonio. Required Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. in the Biological Sciences (or related field) or earned Ph.D. in Science Education, Biology Education, Curriculum and Instruction (or related field) with a Master’s in Biology (or related field).
  • Completion of a minimum of 18 hours of graduate coursework in biological sciences
Preferred Qualifications
  • A record of publications in biology education research
  • A record of externally funded research
  • A record of interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Evidence of teaching experience and accomplishment at the postsecondary level, particularly teaching pre-service biology teachers/faculty
  • Experience mentoring students conducting biology education research projects
