Assistant Professor WOT, Physiatrist with focus on stroke, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine

Position Description
The University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is seeking a physiatrist with focus on stroke rehabilitation to join our faculty at UW Medicine as a full-time Assistant Professor (without tenure due to source of funding, which is typical of ranked faculty appointments within the department), in the Clinician-Scientist pathway. Academic rank at the time of appointment is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Assistant professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Anticipated start date is September 2023, but other dates may be considered.

We offer a collaborative and multidisciplinary academic environment. 

The successful candidate will join our team in caring for a diverse population with a broad range of diagnoses, such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and polytrauma. Clinical duties will include working in the outpatient clinic and may also include a mix of working in the inpatient rehabilitation unit and/or acute hospital consultation at either Harborview Medical Center or the University of Washington Medical Center, depending on the successful candidate's interests and patient care needs. Our patient and family-centered academic hospital-based rehabilitation programs offer tertiary care for a five-state region. We practice in a collaborative and multidisciplinary academic environment.

The successful candidate also will participate in research and scholarly activities, with opportunity to both collaborate with other faculty on existing research projects and to develop an externally funded research program. It is expected that the successful applicant will become a successful independent investigator.

There also will be opportunity to participate in the teaching of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residents/fellows and other students, staff, or faculty. The majority of this teaching may take place as part of clinical supervision of their activities and other didactic sessions.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. 

The base salary range for this position will be $14,166 - $17,500 per month ($169,992 - $210,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include any of the following, if applicable: incentive through UW Physicians (UWP), moving allowance, relocation incentive.

Qualifications

• MD, DO, or foreign equivalent and eligible for full medical licensure in Washington state   
• Board certification or eligibility for Board Certification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation   
• Successful completion of residency training in an accredited PM&R program    

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
