The School of Public Health at Samford University invites applicants interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, beginning August 2023. This full-time, tenure-track, 9-month position carries a three-courses-per-semester Fall/Spring teaching load.

Qualified candidates will hold an earned doctorate in Nutrition or related area from an institutionally accredited university or be a highly qualified ABD who will have their doctoral degree in hand by December 31, 2023. Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credentialing is preferred, but not required. The candidate will be required to teach nutrition and dietetics courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels; advise and mentor students; engage in scholarly activity; participate in curriculum and program development, and participate in service to the university, profession, and community. The successful candidate will have a commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and colleagues. The department also seeks to foster the active research agenda of early-career scholars. Support for travel to national meetings is available.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics in the School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences, has 6 full-time faculty, several long-term adjunct faculty and educators, and approximately 45 undergraduate majors, 45 minors, and 25 graduate students. The Samford Wellness Kitchen is a culinary medicine-focused teaching kitchen initiative of the Department. In 2022, this initiative offered 18 classes on Food is Medicine, and a week-long teen cooking camp in the summer, which served nearly 200 participants.

The College of Health Sciences is an innovative initiative for Samford University. The College includes four schools: Moffett and Sanders School of Nursing, McWhorter School of Pharmacy, School of Health Professions, and School of Public Health. The College offers multiple degree programs and majors within the health sciences with a focus on inter-professional education that reflects today’s team approach to health care delivery and professional practice. College faculty have special opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
