Job Description
This position is responsible for promoting study abroad programs, recruiting and advising
student participants, coordinating activities with faculty, handling risk management associated
with international travel, planning activities for international students, and other related duties.
Duties & Responsibilities
Study Abroad Coordination– 40%
● Overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of University
efforts to facilitate students and faculty studies abroad, as well as reciprocal student
exchange programs. This includes:
○ Coordinating with faculty, staff, administration, and external constituencies in the
development of new study abroad programs and the on-going evaluation of
existing programs, including the portfolio of faculty-led study abroad programs.
○ Advising students who want to participate in study abroad programs, including
advice on program choice, application, credit transfer, financial aid, University
policies, health and safety, cross-cultural adjustments, and other academic and
non-academic issues.
○ Meeting directly with students prior to departure to ensure travel readiness,
preparation, and any required follow-up paperwork or documentation;
coordinating associated programming.
○ Coordinating, as needed, with other campus departments such as admissions,
student accounts, financial aid, and registrar.
○ Serving as liaison between program providers and students regarding travel
logistics prior to, during, and upon return of student participation.
○ Managing pre-departure and orientation materials, website, and application
updates within the learning management system.
○ Providing 24/7 travel support and emergency on-call contact when students are
abroad.
○ Providing risk management oversight and collaborating with other University
stakeholders to develop and manage emergency protocols, including the
development of a strategic plan for risk mitigation.
International Student Support – 40%
● Providing administrative support for the process of approving travel requests for current
international students; advising students, faculty, and other members of the campus
community on relevant policies related to international student travel
● Serving as a Designated School Official and ensure that SEVIS records are accurately
updated
● Assisting in organizing orientation programs, cross-cultural events, and information
workshops, etc.
● Supporting all student inquiries, processes SEVIS requests, answers emails in general
inbox, updates student records, etc.
Administration – 20%
● Developing short and long term goals and policies.
● Preparing reports on the census of programs and assessment on outcomes.
● Developing annual budgets in consultation with others.
● Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualification Standards
● Ability to retain and disseminate a varied body of information and employ independent
decision-making skills.
● Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a
diverse community.
● Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
● Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of
individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
● Commitment to fostering a workplace culture of belonging, where diversity is celebrated,
and equity is a core value.
● Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Education
● Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, ESOL, Humanities, International Studies, or related
field OR Bachelor’s degree and three years related experience or equivalent combination
of education and experience.
● Experience in intercultural communication and working in a post-secondary environment
advising students.
● Experience living, studying, or working abroad.
● Skill in budget preparation and the ability to develop financial plans.
● Experience with Terra Dotta study abroad software.
● Ability to plan, market and evaluate programs.
● Knowledge and understanding of academic policies and procedures, course requirements
and prerequisites, and procedures governing credit transfer.
● Program planning and management experience.
● Fluency in a language other than English.
