Position Purpose
To secure and steward restricted and unrestricted gifts from assigned individuals, believed capable of making $250,000 to $5+ million gifts in support of Dartmouth College’s institutional priorities, and to work with the Executive Director and other staff to increase Dartmouth’s visibility with alumni international prospects.
This position reports to the Executive Director of Global Engagement and Philanthropy.
Description
This position will have a portfolio of 150 international major gift prospects and be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting or arranging for the solicitation of gifts of $250,000 and above abroad, with a special ability to travel to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as being versatile and able to travel to other areas and work with donors from other regions, such as Canada, Latin America, and Asia.

* Bachelor’s degree with four years of development experience in a complex college or university development operation
* Personal or professional experience working with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to intercultural sensitivity
* Demonstrated experience soliciting and closing six and seven-figure gifts
* Demonstrated experience working with senior administrators, trustees and top volunteers
* Ability to work with and command the respect of faculty, senior officers, Trustees, and other high-level volunteers
* Demonstrated success in producing international trips for self and others, including ability to set itineraries and arrange meetings and travel logistics
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of multiple teams
* Ability and willingness to work remotely and travel internationally extensively
* Preference for experience working or traveling in developing countries
* Strong organizational skills combined with individual initiative
* Strong marketing and negotiation skills combined with analytical and planning skills
* An entrepreneurial spirit combined with hunger for success

Description
Reporting to the Executive Director of Global Engagement and Philanthropy, the officer will have a portfolio of approximately 150 international major gift prospects. Responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting or arranging for the solicitation, of gifts of $250,000 and above abroad, with a special ability to travel to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as being versatile and able to travel to other areas and work with donors from other regions, such as Canada, Latin America, and Asia. Serves as an expert on relevant international fundraising topics and works closely with faculty and volunteers, managing one volunteer committee. Works both independently and in concert with senior officers, Trustees, other colleagues and volunteers to implement strategies including direct solicitation of gifts. Qualifies identified prospects through individual visits, advises research department of potential new prospects and assumes specific responsibility for prospect activity. Reviews and analyzes the currently identified prospect pool to assess accuracy of research and amends and expands profiles as appropriate. Promotes maximum involvement with and giving to Dartmouth, including annual, capital and planned gifts, from identified portfolio of prospects. Works with colleagues in the Dartmouth College Fund, Gift Planning and Principal Giving to develop strategies for individual prospects. Devises individualized involvement/engagement strategies for all prospects using a “top-down” approach to ensure that highest rated prospects receive the most attention. Schedules appointments and articulates and implements strategies for communicating with donors; drafts and customizes institutional correspondence, briefings for senior officers and Trustees and scheduled stewardship reports, proposals and other written materials for all assigned prospects. Identifies prospects to participate in specific events, committees or other programs that promote the cultivation process. Ensures stewardship is provided to donors on existing endowment and current-use funds. Responds quickly and effectively to strategic opportunities for increased prospect engagement.
