The Program in Jewish Studies at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications for the Samuel W. and Goldye Marian Spain Postdoctoral Fellowship. The appointment will be for the academic year 2023–24 (July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024), with renewal possible for a second year. Scholars from all fields of Jewish Studies will be considered, but we are especially interested in candidates whose scholarship relates to the study of antisemitism.
This is a full-time, residential fellowship with a 1/1 teaching load and is benefits eligible. The fellow will receive an annual salary of $70,000 and a maximum $3,000 allowance for research and/or relocation to Houston.
Responsibilities will include:
- Teaching/co-teaching courses in consultation with Jewish Studies
- Participate in the activities of, and contribute to, the intellectual life of the Program in Jewish Studies
- Make satisfactory progress towards the publication of your dissertation
- Publish articles in books and scholarly journals
- Give scholarly presentations at academic conferences in the US and abroad
Candidates must hold a PhD in Jewish Studies or a related field by July 1, 2023, and must have received it no earlier than 2020. Applicants must have demonstrated research interest in Jewish Studies and have excellent communication, collaboration, administration, and time-management skills.

- Two-page course proposal for a 14-week undergraduate course in a topic related to Jewish Studies
